Employer Profile

The Department of Finance is at the heart of the Western Australian public service, driving whole-of-government policy whilst also delivering practical outcomes for the community of Western Australia.

This unusual blend of policy and service delivery provides the foundation for us to achieve our vision – to drive practical, cost effective and quality outcomes across government to benefit the people of Western Australia.

The Department of Finance comprises six distinct business units that:

  • Offer strategic advice to the Government on sector-wide policy and operations;

  • Lead the planning and delivery of major projects, for example Optus Stadium, oversee the construction and maintenance of non-residential buildings, and provide ongoing asset management advice;

  • Manage government office accommodation driving flexibility, innovation and sector-wide efficiencies;

  • Lead on whole-of-government procurement and contracting ;

  • Administer  revenue laws and the payment of grants and subsidies to the community; and

  • Deliver high quality corporate service functions to Finance and other government agencies.

We employ around 1,000 people from multi-disciplinary backgrounds to deliver our broad portfolio of responsibilities. Underpinning our work are our values: passionate and committed; bold and innovative; honest and respectful; and inspiring and influential.

We focus on values rather than qualifications and we welcome graduates from all degrees.

We encourage our graduates to be proactive and open to the many career opportunities available throughout the Department. Every four months our graduates rotate through different business units, providing an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Department’s varied business operations.

 A comprehensive training and development calendar supports graduates throughout the program and provides the foundation for working in a public sector environment.
